As part of the utility partnership between the Bergischer Abfallwirtschaftsverband (BAV) and the Ukrainian waste management association EcoService2022, 500 additional waste containers have been delivered to the Ukrainian region of Poltava. The delivery is part of an ambitious plan to introduce an effective waste management system and separate waste collection in the four Ukrainian municipalities of Pyryatyn, Hrebinka, Novoorzhyzke and Chornuchy. The aim is to increase the connection rate for glass and plastic collection to 100 per cent by the end of 2025.

Thanks to the additional 500 waste containers, this goal is now a big step closer. The Ukrainian Waste Management Association currently has around 360 waste containers in 120 collection islands. The new containers will increase the number of collection islands by 150-170 new locations. This will not only significantly improve the waste infrastructure in the association's area, but will also increase the volume of waste. In order to cope with this growing demand, a further collection vehicle will be procured in addition to the containers in the coming months through the BMUV Export Initiative for Environmental Protection. Furthermore, the association's landfill capacities are to be modernised and expanded in order to be able to accommodate future waste volumes.

The procurement of the containers by the municipal company BAV has enabled the purchase of high-quality containers at economical prices. The BMUV Export Initiative for Environmental Protection and the BAV are on hand to advise EcoService2022 on how best to distribute the containers and plan and coordinate the routes for the collection vehicles.
