872 donated goods for Ukrainian water utilities

Thank you very much for your donation!

Since the beginning of this year, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), together with the German Association of Local Utilities (VKU)and financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), has been carrying out an aid campaign for Ukrainian water companies in which technical goods provided by German water companies are delivered to Ukraine.

Since January 2023, 36 companies from 10 German federal states have participated in the water sector's call for donations. A total of 52 goods packages consisting of 872 goods have been donated to 44 Ukrainian municipal enterprises (as of 26 July 2023). A sign of great solidarity with Ukraine!

More than a fifth of the goods have already arrived in Ukraine. The rest are currently on their way.

Transformers and generators for power generation topped the list of donated goods with 39 percent, followed by water technology, vehicles and other transport-related goods, as well as protective gear.

Interested German utilities can still take part in the campaign. On the VKU’s website they can find the list of needs with exact details of which goods are currently required on the Ukrainian side. Even if they can provide technical goods that are not on the list, they can contact the VKU via the link above. The rest of the process is organised by GIZ: as soon as the goods to be sent have been determined, customs clearance and the transport of the goods are prepared by the GIZ logistics partner "Go Local". The transport is free of charge for donating companies and is financed by BMZ.

Many thanks to all donors and participants for their commitment!

We also want to highlight the continuing partnership commitment of many water utilities. The number of solidarity utility partnerships with Ukraine still keeps growing. You can find the latest news on this on our special page Utility and solidarity partnerships with Ukraine
