Would online meetings replace the necessity of hands-on exchange?

Definitely not! To this end, GIZ Jordan contacted HAMBURG WASSER during their last mission in Amman to organise a practice-oriented study tour for 8 colleagues from Jordan Water Company "Miyahuna", Amman and Yarmouk Water Company, Irbid. Accompanied by 4 colleagues from GIZ Jordan, the group visited technical facilities on May 23 and engaged in technical exchange with the peers in Germany within the framework of the "Utility Platform for Strengthening Partnerships of Municipal Utilities worldwide".

Along with HAMBURG WASSER, Netze BW Wasser of Stuttgart welcomed the delegation and provided priceless insights into their daily acitivites in terms of water supply and distribution, which was a great match since the topography of Stuttgart is similar to several cities in Jordan.

The scope of this visit comprised:

  • Attending the 5th GWOPA Congress in Bonn
  • Energy Management incl. the application of turbine-as-pump appraoch
  • Sustainable O&M of drinking water assets with a special focus on sustainable planing of preventative maintenance activities
  • Asset Management
  • Monitoring, data collection and evaluation
  • Wellfield management: best practices O&M
  • Reduction of Non-revenue water

This study tour highlighted the importance of technical exchange and cooperation among utilities to increase the efficiency of their own systems and achieve better performance and better services for their customers. The partner utilities thank all colleagues who contributed to making this study trip a great success.
